Three communities raised $5900 for a common cause. If community B raised 5/8 of the money community A raised and community C contributed 5/6 of the contribution of community A, how much money did each of the three communities raise?
:
Let the money that A raised be: x
Then the money that B raised is: 5/8x
Then the money that C raised is: 5/6x
The total amount raised is: 5900
A raised: x=$2400
B raised: 5/8x=5/8(2400)=$1500
c raised: 5/6x=5/6(2400)=$2000
:
Sanity Check:
If we add the amounts A, B, and C raised, do we get $5900 as claimed?
2400+1500+2000=5900
5900=5900
We seem to be on the right track.
Happy Calculating!!!!
