They decide to split the total cost of the house boat in the ratio of 2 : 5 : 7 respectively. If the total cost of the houseboat rental is $4200 for the 10 days, calculate:
a) How much each family will pay for the houseboat?
b) How much does each family pay per day.

2 plus 5 plus 7 is 14. Divide the total cost by 14 to find the amount of one share. Then one family pays 2 shares, the second family pays 5 shares, and the last family pays 7 shares.
