Question 69453: The preimeter of a rectangular garden is 40 feet. The width is 2 feet more than 1/2 the length. Find the length and width?
Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let x= length
Then (x/2)+2 = width
Perimeter= 2L+2W
40=2x+2(x/2+2) get rid of parens
40=2x+x+4 subtract 4 from both sides
40-4=3x
36=3x
x=12 ft------------------------length
x/2+2=12/2+2=6+2=8 ft------------------------------width

ck
2L+2W=40
24+16=40
40=40

Hope this helps -----ptaylor
