please solve only number 6 for me please, thank you!! i can't whow the diagram or explain it srry. so plz look at this?
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
looking at your diagram, the length of the path will be: 8 + 16 - x = (24-x)
(-x because the paths share an area), the width = x
;
The area of the stone = L*W
x(24-x) = 80
24x - x^2 = 80
Arrange as a quadratic equation on the right
0 = x^2 - 24x + 80
Factors to
(x-4)(x-20) = 0
Two solutions
x = 20
x = 4 ft; this is the only reasonable answer (obviously a 20' width in impossible)
:
:
See if the that checks out: 4(8+16-4) = 4(20) = 80 sq/ft of stone
