Question 677235: A picture frame has a length that is 2 inches more than its width. if the area of the frame is 35 square inches, find the dimensions of the frame?
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Area(A)equals Length(L) times Width(W) or A=LW
Let W=width of frame
Then L=W+2
Sooooo
35=(W+2)*W
35=W^2+2W
W^2+2W-35=0 quadratic in standard form and it can be factored
(W+7)(W-5)=0
W=-7----------------No good. Dimensions should be positive.
W=5---------------------width of frame
W+2=5+2=7----------------length of frame
CK
35=5*7
35=35
Hope this helps---ptaylor
