the perimeter of a rectangle is perimeter=2(length)+2(width)
perimeter = 312 inches
let W=width
length=W+63
312=2(W+63)+2W
312=2W+126+2w
312=4W+126
subtract 126 from both sides
186=4W
divide both sides by 4 to get W by itself
W=46.5 inches
length = W +63
length=109.5 inches
answer: width=46.5 inches and length=109.5 inches
plug the answers back into the equation to check work:
312=2(W+63)+2W
312=2(46.5+63)+2(46.5)
312=219+93
312=312
