a candle burned 3/8 of the way down in 36 minutes.
If it continues to burn at the same rate, about how many more minutes will
the candle burn before it is used up?
:
Let t = total time for the candle to be used up
t = 36
multiply both sides by 8
3t = 8(36)
3t = 288
t = 288/3
t = 96 minutes
:
96 - 36 = 60 min to burn the rest of the way
or
*96 = 60 more minutes
