Let x = Barbara's salary before the 4% rise, then
x + 4% of x = $41,200.00 Express this algebraically.
x+0.04x = 41200 Simplify.
x(1.04) = 41200 Divide by 1.04
x = 39615.3846... Round to nearest dollar.
x = $39,615.00
