Question 621125: I am trying to solve this problem, "A backyard fair charged $1.00 admission for adults and $0.50 for children. The fair made $25 and sold 34 tickets. How many adult tickets were sold?" and I am not sure how to set it up. I thought perhaps elimination, however I am note sure how to do that with a 0.5 for children's tickets!

If decimal fractions annoy you, get rid of them. Instead of expressing things in dollars and decimal fractions of dollars, express everthing in cents.
$1.00 is 100 cents. $0.50 is 50 cents. And $25 is 2500 cents.
Either substitution or elimination will work neatly on this one. Take your pick.
