He sells them for $5 each, so his revenue function is
where
is the number sold. His cost function is
because of the $2 per cone cost plus the $35 fixed rental cost.
Profit is revenue minus cost, so:
So if you want the value of
to be at least $200,
Solve for
and round UP to the nearest whole number (because you can't sell a fraction of an ice cream cone).

Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=mx+b
profit=selling price minus costs
5-2=3 dollar profit on each cone
200=3x-35
235=3x
235/3=x
78.33=x
Since he can't sell part of cone, x must be a whole number.
79 is the minimum.

Remember that: Revenues – cost = profit
Let the amount of ice cream cones he has to sell to make a $200 profit be C
Then the cost of the cones he hopes to sell = 2C, and his total costs are: 2C + $35
His revenues from selling C ice cream cones, at $5 per cone = 5C
We now have:
Revenues – cost = profit, OR
, or
Since we don’t have fractional amounts of ice cream cones, we round up this amount to 79
This means that in order for him to make a $200 profit for the day, he has to sell AT LEAST ice cream cones (CHOICE C)
