: I always have trouble with these distance/height ones. Can anyone help me out?Thanks for any efforts.
When the soccer golie kicks a ball, the height (in feet) of the ball after t seconds is given by:
h(t)=-16t^2 + 64t.
How long before the ball hits the ground?
This question is from textbook college algebra
Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When the ball hits the ground, the ball will be at zero feet in height.
0 = -16t^2 + 64t
0 = t^2 - 4t
4 = (t - 2)^2
+- 2 = t - 2
2 +- 2 = t
t = 0 and t = 4
After four seconds, the ball will hit the ground respecting your formula.
