You can put this solution on YOUR website!
18A+8C=288 &
A+C=21 THEN
A=21-C NOW REPLACE A BY (21-C) IN THE OTHER EQUATION
18(21-C)+8C=288
378-18C+8C=288
-10C=288-378
-10C=-90
C=-90/-10
C=9 SOLUTION.
THEN
A+9=21
A=21-9
A=12 SOLUTION
PROOF
18*12+8*9=288
216+72=288
288=288
MUCH BETTER PROBLEM!!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the cost of admission be: C%5BA%5D+=+18 and C%5BC%5D+=+8
Let the number of adults = A and the number of children = C
Then A+%2B+C+=+21 as there were 21 people.
And A%2AC%5BA%5D+%2B+C%2AC%5BA%5D+=+288 as $288 was collected.
So, 18A+%2B+8C+=+288
Since, A+%2B+C+=+21, C+=+21+-+A+
So, 18A+%2B+8%2821+-+A%29+=+288
Or, 18A+%2B+168+-+8A+=+288
Or, 10A+%2B+168+=+288
Or, 10A+=+120
So, A+=+12
So, There were 12 adults and since there were 21 people altogether there were 9 children.

Verify this answer by plugging in A+=+12 and C+=+9 in A%2AC%5BA%5D+%2B+C%2AC%5BA%5D+=+288
12+%2A+18+%2B+9+%2A+8 should = 288.
12+%2A+18+=+216
9+%2A+8+=+72
216+%2B+72 does indeed = 288.

Adult tickets cost $18.00 children cost $8.00 there were 21 people total at the theatre and they collected $288.00 how many children attended?

solution:
let us take number of children = x
then number of adults = 21 - x {because total number is 21

cost of one child's ticket = $ 8
so cost of x childen ticket = x * $ 8
cost of one adult ticket = $ 18
so cost of (21 - x ) tickets = (21 -x ) * $ 18
Total money collected = $ 288
this can be combined like this,
( 21 - x )* 18 + x * 8 = $ 288
remove the brackets by multiplying terms, we have,

21 * 18 - x * 18 + x * 8 = $ 288
378 - 18x + 8x = 288
378 - 10x = 288
378 - 288 = 10 x
90 = 10 x
x = 90/10
x = 9
therefore number of children = 9
