Please help me solve this problem: one angle of a linear pair is 10 more than two-thirds the other angle. Find both angles.
.
If two angles are a "linear pair", the sum must be 180 degrees.
.
Let x = one angle
rhen
180-x = second angle
.
Our equation is derived from: "one angle of a linear pair is 10 more than two-thirds the other angle":
x = (2/3)(180-x) + 10
multiplying both sides by 3:
3x = (2)(180-x) + 30
3x = 360-2x + 30
5x = 360 + 30
5x = 390
x = 78 degrees
.
second angle:
180-x = 180-78 = 102 degrees
.
Answer: 78 and 102 degrees
