There were 6 more women on a committee than men. If the committee was made up of 30 people, how many men were on the committee?
Let men be:x
Then women are:x+6 (6 more than men)
Men+wommen=30
:
x+(x+6)=30
2x+6=30
2x+6-6=30-6
2x=24
2x/2=24/2
x=12
Men:
Women:x+6=12+6=18 (we weren't asked this, but it will help us check)
Check: If we add men and women do we get 30?
12+18=30
