The sum of the squares of two consecutive integers is 61.Find the integers.
Let the consecutive integers be x and x+1.
EQUATION:
x^2 + (x+1)^2 = 61
x^2 + x^2 +2x +1 = 61
2x^2+2x=60
x^2+x=30
x^2+x-30=0
(x+6)(x-5)=0
x=-6 or x=5
If x=-6 then x+1 = -5
If x=5 then x+1 = 6
