time = 3x minutes/job ; rate = 1/(3x) job/min
-------------
Faster pump DATA:
time = x min/job ; rate = 1/x job/min
-------------------------------
Together DATA:
time = 6 min/job ; rate = 1/6 job/min

Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/(3x) + 1/x = 1/6
---------
Multiply thru by 6x:
2 + 6 = x
x = 8 minutes (time for the faster pump)
3x = 24 minutes (time for the slower pump)
