A class is making an 5 liter acid solution. This 40% solution is obtained by mixing a 20% solution and a 60% solution. How much of each do you use?

Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.20x + 0.60(5-x) = 0.40*5
--------------------------------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
20x + 60*5 - 60x = 40*5
----
-40x = -20*5
x = (1/2)5
----
x = 2.5 liters (amt of 20% solution needed)
5-x = 2.5 liters (amt of 60% solution needed)
