Question 553127: The sum of two numbers is 48. I the smaller number is subtracted from the large, the difference is 12. Find the number?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y=48
x-y=12

(x+y)+(x-y)=48+12
2x=60
x=30

x+y=48
30+y=48
y=48-30
y=18

So the solutions are x = 30 and y = 18
