Call the number x.

Three times the number is 3x.

The sum of 3x (three times the number) and 4 is 3x+4.

Is between -8 and 10 is -8 < 3x+4 < 10.

Solve both inequalities.

3x+4>-8
3x>-12
x>-4

3x+4<10
3x<6
x<2.

The solution is -4 < x < 2
