Question 550293: sue bought 2 magazines and 3 books for $25 from the book store. Terry bought 3 magazines and 2 books for $30 from the same store. If the store charges one specific price for books and another specific price for magazines, find the cost of each.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Magazines x price
books y price
2 x + 3 y = 25 .............1
3 x + 2 y = 30 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -2
Multiply (2) by 3
-4 x -6 y = -50
9 x 6 y = 90
Add the two equations
5 x = 40
/ 5
x = 8.00 OR 8
plug value of x in (1)
2 x + 3 y = 25
16 + 3 y = 25
3 y = 25 -16
3 y = 9
y = 3.00 OR 3
Magazines $8
books $3
