If 90 feet of wire weighs 18 pounds, then what will 100 feet of the same type of wire weigh?

Use a proportion:
x/100 = 18/90
---
x = (10/9)18
---
x = 20 lbs.

First- divide 18 by 90
= (fraction) 1/5 pound per foot
Second- 100 multiplied by 1/5
= 20
