Tickets are $3 for kids and $5 for adults. There were three times as many kids tickets sold as adult tickets. All together the circus made $700. How many of each ticket was sold?

Equations:
Tickets: k = 3a
Value:: 3k + 5a = 700
---------------------------
Substitute for "k" and solve for "a":
3(3a) + 5a = 700
14a = 700
a = 50 (# of adult tickets sold)
---
Solve for "k":
k = 3a
k = 3(50)
k 150 (# of kids tickets sold)
------
