Travel agency offers 2 ticket packages to see the Oilers play in the 2020 super bowl. Package one is 50 yd line seats for $1000.00each, package 2 is bleacher seats for $600.00 each. If you bought 13 tickets and paid $10,600.00, how many of each package did you buy?
This is a linear equation so use the standard form of a line:
Ax+By=C
A=the rate ($1,000)
x=the amount of A
B=the rate ($600)
y=the amount of B which is (total tickets (13) - amount of A tickets (x)
C=(rate)(total amount of all tickets) = $10,600.00
.
(1000)(x)+(600)(13-x)=10,6000 [Solve for x]
1000x+7800-600x=10,6000
400x+7800=10,6000
400x=2800
x=7 Fifty-yard line packages sold
.
13-7=6 bleacher seat packages sold
.
Check by plugging in all of the values back into the original equation.
(1000)(7)+(600)(13-7)=10,6000
10,600=10,600 [Checks out]
.
