The height of an object tossed upward with an initial velocity of 104 feet per second is given by the formula h = -16t^2 + 104t, where h is the height in feet and t is the same time in seconds.
Find the time required for the object to return to its point of departure.
:
the point of departure (ground level) h = 0, therefore
-16t^2 + 104t = 0
Factor out -16t, results
-16t(t - 6.5) = 0
Two solutions
t = 0 sec, when object is tossed, it as at ground level
and
t = 6.5 sec, when object returns to earth
