let x= one of two pieces cut and bent into a square
100-x =other piece cut and bent into a square
area of first square=(x/4)^2=x^2/16
area of second square=((100-x)/4)^2
x^2/16-((100-x)/4)^2=125
x^2/16-[10000-200x+x^2]/16)=125
x^2-10000+200x-x^2=125*16=2000
200x=12000
x=60 ft
100-x=40 ft
ans:
one piece = 60 ft
other piece = 40 ft
..
area of 60 ft piece=(60/4)^2=15^2=225 sq ft
area of 40 ft piece=(40/4)^2=10^2=100sq ft
Difference in areas=225-100=125 sq ft
