A biologist has 500 cells in a culture at the start of an experiment.
Hourly readings indicated that the number of cells is doubling every hour.
How many cells are present at the end of 4 hours?
:
the formula:
A = Ao*2^t
where
A = resulting amt after t hrs
Ao = initial amt
:
A = 500*2^4
A = 500 * 16
A = 8000 cells after 4 hrs
:
"At the end of how many hours are 32,000 cells present?"
500*2^t = 32000
2^t =
2^t = 64
What power of 2 is 64, 2*2*2*2*2*2 = 64
t = 6 hrs
