Question 474726: You want to buy shoes worth $ 97 but you don't have money, you borrow $50 from your dad and $50 from your mom, now you have $100. You bought the shoes at $97 and you are left with $3. You decided to pay $1 each your mom and your dad so you are left with $1. Now you owe your mom $49 and your dad $49. So, 49+49=98 plus $1 that you kept =99. WHERE IS THE MISSING $1.??
Answer by richard1234(7193) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The dollar cannot be added to $49 and $49. You can analyze this scenario by where the money flows:
You Mom Dad
0 50 50
100 0 0
3 0 0
1 1 1
You owe your parents $49 each, but this is independent of the $1 you have. If you had given your parents $1.50 instead of $1 then there would be $2 in missing dollars, this does not make sense either.
