Question 46134: 20. A plane took 1 hour longer to travel 560 miles on the first portion of a flight than it took to fly 480 miles on the second portion. If the speed was the same for each portion, what was the flying time for the second part of the trip?
A) 6 hours B) 8 hours C) 5 hours D) 7 hours
Answer by Paul(988) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed be x
EQUATION:
560x-480x=(x)(x)
x=80
Speed of the plane --> 80mph
Second portion 480 miles
TIme = Distance / speed
--> 480/80
--> 6
Hence, it took 6 hours to fly through the second part of the trip.
