If you draw this out, you will see that a perfect square will be formed with the
corners located at: center of the circle, the corner of the room, and the two
points on the wall where the circle touches.

The diagonals are the line between the two points where the circle touches the wall, given as 17" and the line between the room corner and the center of the circle.
Diagonals of a square are equal, therefore the distance between the center and the corner is also 17"
