 manager finds that 30% of his original budget remains.

Let x represent the original amount of the budget

Question states*** 30% left, then 70% has been spent

  $3850 + $1750 = .70x

       $5600/.70 = x

      x = $8000, the original amount of the budget

   .30*$8000 = $2400, the amount that remains.
