Question 401986: Working on radicals and do pretty well, but an struggling with a real life application problem that I don't know where to even start with. I've spent a couple hours trying where to go, but am totally stumped.
Using the equation w=Cr^(-2),
Suppose that an object is 100 pounds when it is at sea level (3,963 miles from the center of the earth). Find the value of C that makes the equation true.
I appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks so much!

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
r^(-2) is the same as [1 / (r^2)]
this should not be a surprise, as gravity follows the inverse-square law

multiplying by r^2 ___ wr^2 = C

substituting ___ (100 lb)(3963 mi)^2 = C
