40 members are making candles, 1 member drops out which leaves 39. The 39 members must make 3 more candles each to make up for the 1 person who dropped out, how many candles did each one make?
-----------
40c = 39*(c + 3)
40c = 39c + 117
c = 117 each for 40 = 4680 candles
-------------------
39 must make 120 each = 4680 candles
