Question 393269: If one painter charges a base price of $250 plus $16/hr and another painter charges a base price of $210 plus $18/hr how many hours does it take for them to be the same? I know the answer is 20 hours but how would you set it up to come up with 20 hours?
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If one painter charges a base price of $250 plus $16/hr
A(x) = 250+16x
---------------------------
and another painter charges a base price of $210 plus $18/hr
B(x) = 210+18x
---------------------------
how many hours does it take for them to be the same?
---
Solve:
A(x)=B(x)
250+16x = 210+18x
2x = 40
x = 20 hrs
