15. Devi saves 2/5 of her pocket money each week, spends ¾ of the remainder
on ice-cream and 70 cents on sweets.
She finds that she still has 50 cents left.
How much money does receive each week?
:
Let x = amt received
:
If she saves 2/5x, then 3/5x remains
If she spends 3/4 of the remainder then 1/4 of the remainder remains
:
* x - .70 = .50
x - .70 = .50
x = .50 + .70
x = 1.20
Multiply both sides by 20
3x = 20 * 1.20
3x = 24.00
x =
x = $8.00 is the amt she receives
:
:
Check this:
3/5 * 8 = 4.80
1/4 * 4.80 = 1.20
1.20 - .70 = .50; confirms our solutions of x = $8.00
