Question 389539: please answer this.
The weight W of an object on Mars is directly proportional to its weight B on earth. A man who weights 118.75 kg on earth weights 47.5 kg on Mars. Find the weight of a man on Mars if he weights 98 kg.

If the weights are directly proportional, the ratio (weight on earth):(weight on mars) will always be the same. So, using the data points we are given:

Multiply both sides by W to get it out of the denominator:

Cross out the Ws on the left because they are just multiplying by 1:
2.5*W = 98
Divide both sides by 2.5 to solve for W:

Cross out the 2.5/2.5 and do the division:
W = 39.2
