The ratio of men to women at a certain company is 5 to 4. How many employees does the company have if there are 72 female employees?

The ratio of men to women at a certain company is 5 to 4. How many employees does the company have if there are 72 female employees?

5 to 4 is the same as 5x to 4x where 5x is the # of men.
----
Equation:
5x + 4x = 72
---
9x = 72
x = 8

# of men = 5x = 5*8 = 40
---
# of women = 4x = 4*8 = 32
