Question 38423: Technology: Driving down a mountain Tom finds that he has descended 1800 ft in elevation by the time he is 3.25 miles horizontally away from the top of the mountain. Find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundredth.
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Slope is rise over run.
His rise is -1800 feet.
His horizontal "run" is (3.25)(5280) = 17160
So the slope is -1800 / 17160 = -.104895
To the nearest hundredth, that is -.10
