Let the time taken for the cold water pipe = c
rate of this cold water pipe = 1/c
and the time taken by the hot water pipe = h
so rate of the hot water pipe = 1/h
the time taken by both of these pipes to fill = 20 minutes
so the combined rate = 1/20
now combined rate in terms of c and h is as follows
combined rate = 1/c + 1/h
so we have....
1/c + 1/h = 1/20 ---->(1)
but we are given that cold-water faucet runs as fast as the hot water
so we have c= h
so 1/c = 1/h plug this in (1)
--------->
1/c + 1/c = 1/20 -->
2/c = 1/20-->c = 40
so h = 40
means the cold water tap can fill the bucket in 40 minutes
and the hot water tap also fill the bucket in the same time
