Question 366293: Best buy was having a special on all their tapes and CDs. Jane was able to buy 4 tapes and 3 CDs for $54. Larry bought 6 CDs and 3 tapes for $78. How much did a CD cost?
Answer by robertb(5830)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
From Jane's purchase, 4t + 3c = 54.
From Larry's purchase, 3t+6c = 78, or t+2c = 26, or t = 26 - 2c. By direct substitution, 4(26-2c) + 3c = 54.
104 - 8c + 3c = 54,
-5c = -50,
c = 10, and t = 26 - 2*10 = 6. Therefore a tape costs $6, and a cd costs $10.
