Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
elka pays 1187.20 for a computer.
price includes 6% sales tax.
x = cost of the computer
t = tax
p = price elka payed.
p = x + t*x
1187.20 = x + .06*x
combine like terms to get:
1187.20 = 1.06*x
divide both sides of the equation by 1.06 to get:
1187.20 / 1.06 = x = 1120
price of the computer is equal to 1120.
add 6% sales tax to that and you get 1120 + 67.2 = 1187.2
