Question 362959: Please help me with the following word problem:
An old man goes to the bank with a check of $200 and tells the cashier, "Give me some one-dollar bills, ten times as many twos and the balance in fives!" What will the cashier do?
I worked it out and got the answer to be 5 ones ($5), 50 twos ($100) and 19 fives ($95), but my professor wants a better (algebraic) explanation. I really don't know how to tell him other than trial and error.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

to get an even 200 , with the number of twos divisible by 10 , the number of singles must be divisible by 5

10 singles would mean 100 twos --- TOO MUCH , so 5 singles ___ and the rest follows from the man's request
