Question 362937: The difference of two numbers is 33. If four times the lesser number is subtracted from three times the greater number, the difference is 62. Find the numbers.
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X-Y=33 OR X=33+Y
3X-4Y=62
3(33+Y-4Y=62
99+3Y-4Y=62
-Y=62-99
-Y=-37
Y=37 ANS. FOR THE LESSER NUMBER.
X-37=33
X=33+37
X=70 ANS. FOR THE LARGER NUMBER.
PROOF:
3*70-4*37=62
210-148=62
62=62
