Question 359481: Can you please help me figure out the following word problem?
"At the school play on Friday night, 120 tickets were sold. Student tickets cost $5 each and Adult tickets cost $7 each. The total sales for the evening were $670. How many of each ticket were sold?"
Thank you so much.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
total tickets = 120
let adult tickets sold be x......at $7 per ticket
child tickets sold = 120-x ....... at $5 per ticket
sales = 670
...
7x+5(120-x)=670
7x-600-5x=670
7x-5x=670-600
2x=70
x= 35 adult tickets
children tickets sold will be 120-35 = 85
