Each of the men took $1 and the remaining $2 was given to the bellboy. Therefore, each man spent $9 for a total of $27, and they gave $2 to the bellboy for a grand total of $29 paid. What happened to the other $1?

The men spent $9 x3 = $27, plus $3 change = $30. There was NO extra dollar!!

Or how about this: The men spent $9 x 3 = $27, minus $2 to the bellboy = $25 that they actually paid for the room. There was NO extra dollar!!
