Question 352413: Solve the following system of equations and show how they are solved.
x-y=19
2x + y= 2
Explain which method you chose to solve the system and why you felt it was the best choice.

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x-y=19
2x + y= 2
....
add the both equations
x+2x+y-y=19+2
3x=21
/3
x=21/3
x=7
plug the value of x in x-y =19
7-y=19
add -7
-7+7-y=19-7
-y=12
/-1
y=-12
..
On observation we find that the y term can be eliminated just by adding the two equations. hence elimination method.
