Question 351830: I would be so greatful if you could help me out with this question.
Grandpa Pennywise gives each grandson the amount of money that equals the number grandsons he has. He also does the same thing with the graddaughters as well. Last year, the number of girls equaled one less than the number of boys. This year the girls are excited because this past year newborn twin girls were born which would allow them to finally receive more money than the boys. This year Grandpa Pennywise gave a total of $841 to his grandchildren. How much did he give to the grandons? How many grandchildren does he have?
Thank you.

g = b + 1

g^2 + b^2 = 841

substituting ___ (b+1)^2 + b^2 = 841 ___ b^2 + 2b + 1 + b^2 = 841

b^2 + b - 420 = 0

factoring ___ (b + 21)(b - 20) = 0

b = 20

substituting ___ g = (20) + 1 = 21
