If tickets cost $8 for students and $10 for non-students and 1,500 tickets were sold. The total ticket sales were $12,500. How many student tickets were sold?
--------------------------------------
Equations:
Quantity Eq.:::: s + n = 1500 tickets
Value Eq.::::: 8s+10n = 12500 dollars
-------------------------------------------------------
Multiply thru the 1st equation by 10.
10s + 10n = 15000
8s + 10n = 12500
------------------------
Subtract the 2nd from the 1st to get:
2s = 2500
s = 1250 (# of student tickets sold)
