VARIABLES: a=Adults 3a=Children so,
EQUATION:


Now combine like terms:


You are left with:
divide by 4


SO, a=20 There were 20 Adults


restate the eqation for the children


Plug in the numbers and multiply:


So, there were 20 Adults and 60 Children.


TO CHECK ANSWER

Plug in the numbers:


Multiply:


You are left with:
now add 20+60


Therefore the answer is correct.
