Question 33292: The local donut shop sells donut holes in boxes of 20, 45, and 60. You have $10 of spending money that must last until Friday. How many boxes of each size should you but to make sure that everyone has enough to eat, while at the same time minimizing the cost?

One box of 60 donut holes cost $3.69 tax included
There are 33 students On average 5 students are absent from any class meeting
On average eact student eats 3 donut holes
Answer by jwilliams1989(2) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To solve this word problem you must first determine how many donut holes you will need. To do this, subtract the 5 averages students that miss from 33. This equals to 28 then multiple that by 3 (the average number of donut holes each student eats). This gives you 84 donut holes you'll need for the meeting.
To figure the cost per donut hole, divide $1.99 by 20. It is .09 cents each. Then $3.29 by 45 which is .07 cents each. Then $3.69 by 60. This is .06 cents each. Because you need 84 donut holes, the least expensive way is to purchase one box of 60 and one box of 45. The total amount you will spend is $6.98.
Hope this has helped.
