Make this chart,  Let x be the time:


           cashews        time          rate in 
            eaten      in minutes     cashews/minute  
David        80             x              
Casey        56             x             

     To get the equation, use the first sentence in the problem:

            David's rate = Casey's rate + 3

                         

Solve that for x and get x = 8 minutes

So David's rate is  cashews per minute
So Casey's rate is  cashews per minute
